5/24/10: This Sunday, OC Circuit will have our very first Richard Smith Memorial Race for Richard's family. Richard Smith, Long time racer of OC Circuit and great friend lost his battle with lung cancer. Richard has always been the nice guy on the track. He loved racing rc cars. He ran everything from Sedans to Micro, to T-Maxx's with slicks to F1 cars. He always had a smile on his face and never had any problems with anyone. He truly had a good heart. He found out he had lung cancer a year ago, 2-3 years after he quit. This weekend, his friends, Richard Marquez, Josh Tran, Joe Hegman and a few more arranged a small 2-3 minute race between the mains and qualifiers for Richard's last wish to race an RC Car one last time. he was unable to do so this weekend for his wife has checked him into a Hospice. Today, was his last day. He will always be remembered for being one of the nicest guys on the track. I will miss you dearly good friend. God Bless!!!
If you want to send his wife a card, please send them to: Stephanie Smith 19921 Derby Shire Huntington Beach, CA 92646

TRUSPEC Series #1 was a BIG Successs!!!!!!
12 races, 4 tracks, 1 champion.
I don't even have the words to describe the Series Finale. Mark Barden was the Dominant man to beat. He led 90% of the whole series. Charles Lightfoot was a VERY close 2nd place. If Lightfoot TQ'd and Won today, it would have been a TIE for Points for the over all champion. If Mark TQ'd and won, it would have been ALL OVER. It was not that easy. Charles Lightfoot was calm. Collected. Reserved. Determined. Charles Lightfoot took advantage of Barden's early mistakes and had the early lead in the first round of qualifying. Giving him the TQ honor for the first round. Mark Barden needed to pull a rabbit out of his magic hat to take the TQ and that alone, is all he needed to take the win. It was not that easy. Barden started fighting tweak problems with his car, allowing Lightfoot to sneak on by him and pass him up for the lead. Again, Lightfoot took the win. The Mains. Lightfoot was TQ, Barden Qualified 2nd. Jose Monge Qualified 3rd. It was anyone's race. If Lightfoot won, he would tie Barden for 1st place. If Barden won, he would clinch the championship. It was not that easy. Lightfoot drove his car like it was connected to his body. I also forgot to mention that Lightfoot actually had a camera on the roof of his car to film the whole race. I am sure he will post that up very soon. Lightfoot, Man on a mission battled Barden for a few laps, but it was clear who's car was gonna cross the line first. Lightfoot ended up taking the win in the main. ALl would have been done, but taking the championship was still..not that easy. Because of Lightfoot's win AND TQ, that ties him for 1st place with Barden for overall points. How would this issue be resolved????
GRUDGE MATCH. All turn marshals on the track. 2 champions. They had to start side to side. THey have to see who would take what lane, so the Rock/Paper/Scissors for who got to pick their favorite lane. Lightfoot won and chose the inside lane. Both cars had their bumpers to the VERY back board at the beginning of the straight. It was a DRAG RACE between the 2 equal powered cars. TRUSPEC is and was always about driving, strategy, and perseverance... Rules were simple. 2 cars, 1st car to 10 laps takes the win. At the sound of the tone, they were equal on take off. Lightfoot saw he had to slow down a lot more than Barden because he was closer to the sweeper and could not carry the speed Barden could coming from the outside lane. Now, Lightfoot was wishing he chose the outside lane, but too late for changes now. Lightfoot had to adjust. So he let Barden pass him before the first turn and decided to follow Barden instead. They were close the whole 4 laps until Barden took a turn too tight on the chicane before the straight. It cost him DEARLY. Lightfoot took advantage of the small window of opportunity and BAM he took it. He shot down through the straight. As the laps went on...lap 7, lap 8, lap 9, then finally VICTORY with lap 10 under his belt. It was a great 3 months of the TRUSPEC series leading down to just 2 drivers dueling it out for the top honors. It was clear all racers who participated had a blast. After the cheers and smoke clearing, It was Charles Lightfoot, the 1st TRUSPEC CHAMPION followed by Mark Barden and Jose Monge.
I want to thank Sean Park from TQ Raceway for allowing us to have the TRUSPEC Finally at his awesome facility! I also wanted to say BIG THANKYOU to Yusuke from ABC Hobby USA to sponsoring this super awesome series. And lastly, i wanted to thank all of the racers for their continued support. With out you, there would be no OC Circuit. Im sure Pictures will be up soon as well as videos by Lightfoot, Sean, and ABC so please stay tuned!!!! Results will be up at www.tqrcracing.com
